Malachite Sunbird, Nectarinia famosa, Cape Peninsula NP, South Africa, October 2002, Eos3 +400/5.6L + 1.4x conv, almost handheld from car window, Full Frame, usm

This is one of the most beautiful birds I've seen during the trip I've made through South Africa. In real life it's actually even more beautiful. I'm quite happy how the greens got out of this scan but I'm not too fond of the darker part which could be better if I would work on the scan or scanning, BUT as this is such a beauty I post it any way. I especially like the green in the yellow from these proteas. Too bad it flew off after 3 shots...

No I had not flash on at that moment. The light was awesome and I didn't feel like struggling with it through the window.

I need a PS course...

Cheers

Peter

Peter, I like your own critque. Although flash would have lightened the darker area, it would have blown out the OOF Protea plant right in front of you. That's my only nit, I wish it was not there. The bird looks great against the blue sky and the yellow plants.

I don't know enough to share any critique, but this is a beautiful bird, and I can see why you would be pleased to get this image. I imagine he is very graceful in flight, as well, with that wonderful split tail.
I only do not like the forward flower.

A bite size hint of a wonderful iridescent jade shows thru your scan, what a magnificent bird it must be to see close up and in birdson !!! What a beak and what it seems to be a forked tailed as well!! Lucky you!!!
Indeed!!! Congrats!!! 8)

Peter,

Wow! What a great bird. Just a little more head turn back toward you would have improved the shot by putting more light on his face.

Previous suggestions are good. This is a gorgeous bird and I think you did very well shooting from a car window.
