Semipalmated Plover Charadrius semipalmatus
Acadia N.P.

This is the first image and first sighting of this sweet little shore bird. He was alone and I imagined that he'd just stopped to rest on his way south. He was extremely cooperative, though he wasn't doing anything really, just resting, until he flew away. :)
I used no clarity or contrast on this image ( as i do on all images I post, and I like this on my monitor. All comments welcomed.

Hey Laurel,

Great photo. Love the comp and the little rock he's standing on. A little fill flash wopuld have given a nice catchlight. I believe your bird is a Semipalmated Plover. Love the blue water.

Very nice exposure and nice colors to boot, The OOF FG is a tad distracting to me, I would have cropped most of it just below his feet, A little more sideways would have also been nice as well, Still a very nice image!!!
Congrats!! 8)

Very cute! When you get that 500 with a 1.4x you won't need that 50% crop :D

Very nice shot, Laurel. I agree that a bit of fill would have provided a catchlight.

Goodness, I went back and forth about this...semipalmated vs. piping and couldn 't (didn't) see the webbed foot, and thought he was likely a Piping. Anyone know the other markings/difference?
Just found that the semi-palmated has a darker back than the Piping.

I think you're getting the hang of this quite well. A little flash would have helped....but I'm bad about not using FF in light when I should. Very nice.

A very funny but sobering thought... "Why crop with an out-of-date editing program, when it only costs $7000. not to have to?"

Nice composition. I find the light a tad harsh and suggest flash to help soften the shadows and provide a catchlight, while dailing down the ambient a bit.

I agree with the others on the flash. Nice use of the D100 with the VR. Good cropping composition.
