Clapper rail, photographed a couple of years ago in CT.
The sun was going down and was just falling behind some horizon clouds when this image was taken. The BG is a salt marsh mudflat in shadow.
Image
Nikon F5, 600mm f4 AFS w/ 2x on Provia +1.
Natural light.

Great shot of this bird out in the open. I love the way the head is turned and the intense eye.

Nice one, Paul. You certainly had excellent light to give such wonderful colors.....especially the eye.

Paul,

Any shot of a Clapper in the open is a good shot. The light, the background, and the slight head turn toward the camera make this a great shot.

Paul:

This shot captures for me what is the essence of a clapper: An incongruous combination of extreme wariness, and a very simple mind. He has that look in his eye that seems to be saying "Something scared me a few seconds ago, but I can't remember what."
Great.

Very nice! Certainly a different image of the Rail than we usually see. Nicely done.

Excellent. My only slight nit compositionally would be to have a little less room on the right and a little more on the left.
