Pied-billed Grebe Podilymbus podiceps

Bill and I went over to Belmar Park yesterday. I was surprised as to how many different species that were there. I spotted two Grebes way too far for me to do anything but enjoy watching them. Then out of the clear blue they came over by the bank with some Wigeons where I was sitting. I was so surprised that I could hardly get any shots off. This is the best of the 5 that I was able to get.

Thanks for looking! Any comments appreciated!

Gorgeous! Obviously you have figured out how to take photos with that new 10D. The light is wonderful and makes the water look great. Nice job!

Sheri,

The light makes this one very nice. A bit more "head turn" would be even better.

This one is awesome. Looks like they decided to get friendly at just the right time. He is so well detailed....and the water is a killer. I love the grebes...they are so fun to watch and if you stay with them I've never been disappointed as they always make a close visit. Of course you don't know where they will come up when they dive. This one is outstanding. I can see why you love that 10D....now if I can just figure it out.

Excellent shot, Sheri!
And I like the warm lighting and the color of the reflection ...
I'm a little surprised that you need as much as -2/3 stop compensation for this shot though

Gosh, Sheri, this may be the most beautiful grebe I've seen - he's adorable and your image is excellent - beautiful light. He's smiling, isn't he? :)
