This is another shot from the fish hatchery a few weeks ago. I prefer to be down on the ground groveling at the shorebird's level but that's not possible at the hatchery shooting into drained ponds. In this shot, I rather liked being at a higher angle to see the detail on the back.

I shot this with a new 10D. I was going to get one, even had one ordered and then cancelled the order. I then had second thoughts and went ahead and got it. So far I like it but I'm not very quick at setting the dials and am still not sure about how to read the exposure adjustments that I make.

Nice color rendition and composition and the angle is just fine.

I'm a huge fan of images that show the subject isn't bothered by the photographer's presence. This is one such image. I love all of the points and lines flowing from left to right.

The pose, composition and exposure are all great. The placement in the frame is very nice as well.

Congratulations on the new purchase. You'll pick it up in no time. :)

Beautiful shot, Lana. Sharp with good eye contact. The composition gives me an unbalanced feeling. I might like a bit more room on the bottom and only about half as much negative space on the right.

The bird itself looks wonderful Lana! I echo Sandy's comments on composition and agree with Bill concerning the way you interacted with the bird.

I, too would have preferred that composition. However, there was only part of a reflection and since it looked pretty sharp it reminded me of "cutting the bird" in half...at least the reflection. Thus, I was stuck with the horizontal.

Great catch of the birds posture. Looks well exposed and it's nice and sharp. The composition works for me as the bird's shadow helps balance the image.

I like all the plumage detail and the bird does look totally relaxed.

Lana, I think everything looks great as is. If this is what you can produce when you don't know how to work your camera, I can't wait to see what you come up with when you do. :D

Great shot Lana.

Lana,

This is a very nice shot. It's great to see all the detail in the feathers on the back. I really like all the lines created by the dropped wings. Sure looks like you have the exposure figured out on the new camera.

Exposure and sharpness are very nice. The composition might be more balanced by just having a little more on the left and a little less on the right. You seem to be caught in-between. I guess if you can't get it perfect in the camera (a rare trick for me), the next best thing might be to give yourself room to work with after the fact.

A super image with good composition, Lana!
If anything, a bit more room at the bottom frame would have been nice (if you have it). BTW, you have done well with your 10D by the look of it!

Love this intimate moment you got. The bird seems quite casual and going about its normal business. Don't you love it when they don't fly to the next county when you try to get close? :)

Very nice Lana. I would also move the bird slighty right but think there is enough space at the bottom. The image is so clean looking.
