Image
Nikon D1X VR 70-200mm f/2.8-2.8 G 200mm Spot 1/3200 f/4.5 +0.3 EV ISO 400 Handheld. About 40% of fullframe. Extensive work in PS7 removing noise. I apologize for the poor quality of this image but thought I would post it anyway because of the action caught. The light in Florida has been off and on lately, this was taken during an overcast day with little direct light. Should have been shooting at ISO 125!

Comments and suggestions for improvement are always welcomed, thanks,

Hi Bill. While the light might be a little flat I really like the position you captured the Tern in. Seeing the clear side view of the fish speared straight through the back really adds a lot IMO. I'd also say this looks pretty darn good for ~ 40% of the frame!

Bill, This looks good. A little more USM might pop it more. Love the wing spread and the fish. Your bird is a Sandwich Tern.

Bill,

Nice action shot, good wing position. The fish adds an element. Appears a bit flat.

Bill:

Amazing spear job. The back of that little bunker can't be more than a quarter inch wide.
If you want an easy way to get rid of noise, try Neatimage. It's really quite effective and could not be easier to use.

This looks good to me. Strange that you needed to do so much work with the noise. :? Are you shooting RAW or jpeg?

Anthony: I always shoot in RAW format. I have learned quickly that the D1X fills the frame with noise at ISO 400! About the best I can do is ISO 200 and keep things looking right. Ah, the never ending quest, a camera that will let me shoot at 1/2500 in poor light and still give me perfect clarity. Some day. Maybe. Thanks for your comment, best regards,
Bill Lockhart
