Double-crested Cormorant Phalacrocorax auritus
This is the closest I've been to this bird, and he is my current favorite. :) I stopped at a local town pier when away to shoot some gulls, and there he was atop a street light fixture. He seemed to be quite interested in what I was doing.
This is another try at posting one of these images. The first seemed washed out and had funky artifacts compared to my computer image. I'm assuming this is direcctly attributed to my editing talents. :) Hope this one is better. Thank you for looking!

Well congrats on getting this one up and it's a nice image. You may have gptten the artifacts and other problems with the other image because it might have been highly compressed. Even this one is only 66 kbs. You might crop a bit off the bottom and it would be nice if he were looking a bit more at the camera but still this is very nice.

The details are very nice, and I'm sure that they even better with a biger file size :)
I'm sorry my English is noth good enaugh to help you, but maybe you can ask in the Digital Forum, how to prepare the best for posting on the net .

Good luck

Laurel, this looks excellent to me. The detail is good and I like the framing. Good work.

Very nice feather detail and good DOF. My only wish would be for less of an upward angle but still a very nice shot.

Yes, EJ, I ought to have taken the ladder out of my trunk and placed it against the lamppost and climbed - u-huh. What was I thinking? :) (tough crowd wisecrack - yuk, yuk:)) Sorta' like going to Alaska in February to take photos...I'll be on that boat. Forgive me, I'm just having fun.

I think I saw the original that you had posted and this one is definitely much better. Eye level is usually best but then it's not always possible...then you make the most of what you have. You did pretty good with this one. Perhaps if you could have stepped back some you might have lessened the appearance of the steepness. Also.....have you tried shooting with RAW yet....it will give you a great deal more room for PS manipulation. You're doing great so far....keep it up.

Thankyou, LHays!:) I should have asked ( instead of quips) exactly what one would do in this situation sans ladder - of course - step back! Thank you for your comments. Appreciated more than you know.

Laurel,

Nice and sharp throughout. Good detail in the blacks. The steep angle is unusual but looks ok.

Interesting pose and it looks like pretty good detail. I agree with the others on the angle of view.

This is well done though the angle a bit steep. It also apears a bit noisy. I'd consider cropping behind the bird.
