Grey Heron - Ardea cinerea

While watching a group of Grey Herons for a couple of hours I found it very strange that they showed a lot of nesting-behaviour. Walking around with all kinds of sticks and branches in their beak. This is one of the herons with a nice branch with colorful leaves in it's beak.

Great shot. I would take a little of the bottom and about 1/5 off the left to strenghten the image. Love the action here.

I like this image also. The two primary elements for me are the behavior and the graphical positioning of the branch with it's "S" curve shape. I like the simplicity of the colors and the way the warm leaves act against the overall coolness of the image. Important to me also are the drops hanging from the leaves and the area of water that is disturbed and therefore reflecting the sky. The highlights from that area of water places the viewer right at the bird in the middle of the frame which I think is a good place to be drawn to. I think the placement of the heron balances the overall composition well. Nicely crafted and conceived. How do you like the 300D?

Very nicely done Japper, and very nice equipment to :)
Monique, I am packed and ready to go, I may not look like much but I am well behaved and can grow on you like a fungus, with no cure for it!!!

Nice shot Jasper - there is a GBH colony close to Delft (Delftse Hout) that I am planning to go to in Feb of next year. They nest in trees close to the fields and, with a tent, one should be able to get nice close-ups. Cheers - Dick

Nice light though I wish the stick wasn't in front of the bird. Otherwise I like the comp.
