Blue Jay Houston, Texas

This 1st year bird was taken on this Bottlebrush plant in my backyard. It took many frames to get one where he was standing erect and the crest was raised.

F5, 600/4, Provia 100F.

Beautiful, Alan. A few infrequently visit my backyard, but I've never got anything this good. I assume you use a blind. Is there anything else that you use to attract them?

Hi Alan. This is so pretty. I have always loved Bottlebrush plants and they really add a nice touch here. This bird looks to be posing for you. :) what a colorful shot!

Excellent, Alan. I normally would like the bird more to our right, but I assume you didn't frame it that way so you could include the flower on the right.

Very pretty Blue Jay and a really nice image.

These guys have gotten very scarce in my area. There are a few scrub jays, but not many blue jays. They're both tougher to shoot than you'd think, too.

Alan,

About as good a pose perch and BG as I have seen in a Bluejay image. The red flower adds an element. Slight magenta cast to the whites.

Jim, Yes, you are right, I was in a blind. I was using regular bird seed in a tray just under the perch. Thanks, Alan.

Alan,

Very nice shot. You captured a great pose on the Blue Jay. I like the flower in the lower left and the one in the upper right to balance it.

Alan -

Nice pose, and the plumage detail is great.
Looks like this one is growing some new tail feathers.

Gorgeous! Do you have any of the newly fledged babies? I had twins this summer - they were too funny to watch with their baldness, but i could not get a good enough image to post. This is exceptional.
