Another African exotic photographed in the same locale as the Orange Bishop. Just the other day I photographed yet another type of African exotic in the same location(next post).
I have seen two Orange Bishops here, but only one Yellow-crowned. The Yellow-crowned seems much more secretive and doesn't allow as close an approach as the Orange.

Great shot Richard. Love all these little perches your finding down there. This could handle a little off the right. Killer BG.

Wonderful bird and a really cool perch. I love the deep green background but (fyi) I am seeing four strange faint vertical lines at the very top and a couple of what look to be dust spots. They barely distract from this well crafted image. I would love to see this species!

Richard, Another neat looking bird. Are these migrants or did someone release them?

Cool bird, Richard. Nice shot.
The perch is interesting as well.

Sounds like you found a little exotic bird gold mine there.

I don't know for sure how these birds wound up in Southern California. I know that the Orange Bishops have been known to be in So. Cal. for quite some time now and are breeding and doing well.
I don't know about the Yellow-crowned Bishop. From what I can tell I don't think that they are as common or as established as the Orange Bishop.
My next post will be an exotic that I don't think even the very knowledgeable birder at the Nature Center knows is there. When I did a search on the web to confirm the i.d. of that bird most of the sites that came up were zoos.
Therefore, I assume that the most likely origin of the Yellow-crowned Bishop and the soon to be posted(big secret  next bird) are zoos from which they've escaped.
If anyone has any other info on them, I'd be happy to hear about it.

Richard,

The Yellow-crowned Bishop against the dark green background is stunning! They just keep getting better and better!
