Male Goldfinch

From this morning.  Quite gloomy and didn't really achieve the image I had in mind but still pleasant to do some photography.  (the males have longer beaks which allow them to access Teasel seeds easier).

Z9 and 800 PF.  1/1600 F6.3 ISO 2000.

What a handsome bird- love the pose in the mossy setting, and so clear and bright in contrast. Interesting comment about the bill. I would wonder why the male has such an advantage.

Apparently it allows them to feed on the Teasel seeds, but lets the females concentrate on the Thistles, Cindy.  (less feeding conflict?)... a puzzle indeed as to how they evolve.

Great image, David- perhaps not what you had in mind, but looks very good, here. Very different looking from our male goldfinch, here in North America, which is predominately yellow, in breeding colours.
