I lead a group of bird watchers last Saturday and we came a cross a place where we saw several of these dippers who didn't mind people being close.
So the next day I returned and tried to get some shots. Despite them not being shy, there was some distance between me and the birds, so this was the 2nd time I used the 1.4x in addition to the built-in 1.4x extender. This requires a bit more sharpening but when the conditions are right (a short enough shutter speed, no heat haze), the combo ain't too bad. Despite the extenders this is still a crop of about 35%. I do not own the 2x, so maybe adding that instead of the external 1.4x would have been even better but I am not sure I would use the 2x much so I haven't bought it yet. Click on image for a larger and sharper version. Z8, 4/600TC with built-in TC and external 1.4x, tripod, 1/800, f8, ISO 4500. |
