Here is a juvenile short-billed dowitcher in early morning light photographed at Jamaica Bay NWR in NY about a month ago.
The birds were watching the sky that morning, as there were occasional fly-bys of peregrine and merlin.

A beautiful shot in amazing light. My only wish is for it to not be tilted.

The rich, brown colors are gorgeous. The darks seem a bit dark but very much in keeping with Velvia.

Gorgeous shot, Paul. I love the low angle, golden light, and smooth brown background all around. Great work.

Nice, strong, saturated color and exposed very well with the details in the dark areas well visible. It has the slightest tilt to the left.

Paul:

Nice warm, saturated color throughout. And great capture of that paranoic skyward glance. Of course we suffered from a bit of peregrine-oia oursleves, hoping he wouldn't bomb through a spook all our subjects.

Incredible colors with this one. I don't know if the BG were a tad lighter that it would be better....something I'd have to see and compare. I have quite a few shots of the shorebirds with their "eye in the sky". On more than one occasion a peregrin falcon ruined some quality time with the shorebirds. Great shot!!
