Hello NatureScapers:

This is a mandarin drake photographed in Arizona last winter on a EJ Duckshop. Lots of ducks and lots of fun.

Thanks for looking and any comments or suggestions you are willing to offer.

Wonderful shot of the most beautiful duck in the universe! Great color and sharpness where it counts. Some may say it's a little tight but I like it, especially for web display. I can't wait to shoot ducks with E.J. next year myself!

Gorgeous, Dennis. I was going to suggest increasing the DOF, but then I realized that gaining even one stop wouldn't get the tail in focus, and by doing that you would have increased grain (by setting ISO to 400) or decreased SS to a dangerous level.

The colors are just gorgeous, nice to get him in water that so nicely complements his color. I don't remember that we even saw the Mandarin the weekend I did Duckshop. Timing is everything! Nice low viewing angle on him too.

Always a gorgeous creature and this particular individual (there are three males and 4 females in this spot) is the uggly duckling of the triumverate - still a gorgeous creature and an excellent photo of him.

Dennis,

Personally I'd like a little more space about him, especially in front. I don't mind the tail and body not being in focus.

Jim
Enjoy viewing

Marvelous creature , Dennis!!! , nice facial detail and the horizon should he moved to the right a little, What happened to fill-in-flash ??, Wonderful image as is, A little more room around would have also been very good !!!

Very nice Dennis,

The background color really frames this incredible photogenic bird well.

Tough to argue with Greg's assessment of the most beautiful duck in the universe. Colors are wonderful and the water color is nicely complementary. Love the touch of the single back feather out of place.

I think the Baikal Teal gives the Mandarin Duck a run for its money on the beauty front :)

This is sweet! All the ducks I try are always moving so fast it's as challenging as flight shots. The color and composition is just gorgeous.

Dennis,
From your title I expected to see a picture of an orange.
Seriously, beautiful shot. I too vote for a little more room.

Wow, what an incredibly beautiful creature and a splendid shot, too! The colors of the bird and the water are just wonderful. The framing is tight and I like it a lot. Absolutely gorgeous, Dennis!

You know I like'um close. Not too tight for me!
Sandy's been shooting off his "cannons" to long :D The D1x doesn't go grainy at 400ISO like he's used to. I vote for 400ISO and more dof.
But!!!!!! I'd take this one any day.
