From perhaps the most frustrating session with my loon friends! The adults would "park" the baby within a few feet, using my kayak as a windbreak, and then go fish. When returning the juvenile would invariably have his back to me as he went to get fed. Watched for a couple of hours until well after sunset but never got the baby and a parent both in focus. This is full height but cropped from horizontal. Would like more room on the left, but had to crop out the OOF baby. (Have one in Elements of Humankind with a different emphasis.)

I expected to see another beautiful loon - but not this! You may have been frustrated but your patience definitely paid off. This is awesome!

A wonderful view, Rich. I'd like to see it quite a bit darker.

So would I - and I've made the change. Got interrupted and then grabbed the wrong file!

Have never seen a headshot like this on a loon before. Very unusual and nicely done. Still not sure about the contrast, but it's close and an excellent photo.

I have to go with Sandy. This needs a little more contrast to pop. Great action. Well worth working on.

You did well to get the whole head in focus. Perhaps a crop to remove some of the OOF bottom.

I really like the water droplets on the dead and the position if the loon with the fish in it's bill. I also think this looks good with some of the OOF water cropped out. The water drops look like little jewels on that subtly iridescent head.

amazing. I guess I have seen this late and there seems to be no problem that I see with contrast or lightness. No nits from me, only admiration to be this close to capture such an image.

The details in the dark head and the beads of water are amazing. Good job!

What an excellent shot.....and opportunity. Maybe next summer I'll get my chance. For now I'll just have to look at your shots.....and drool.
