Crested Caracaras photographed at the Laguna Seca Ranch in deep South Texas 23 March 2023.
Nikon Z9 Nikon 300m f/2.8 1/4000 sec f/5.6 ISO 1250 There's two ways to determine a Caracara's age. When their wing feathers are completely black (look closely and you can see some brown feathers on the bottom bird), and you can also tell by the color of their beak. The top bird has an orange beak, and the bottom bird has a yellow beak. When the yellow beak turns orange, they are fully mature. A very young Caracara has a pink beak, and the feathers are light in color. |
