Killdeer Charadrius vociferus

There seems to be a shortage of images depicting Killdeer actually in the water. I myself don't have many.

This was taken at the same local park from which most of my avocet images were shot. In fact, this guy took this pose for me while I was photographing some avocets.

EOS1V, 600/4, 1.4x EFII, Gitzo, Wimberley
Provia 100F
Av @ f7.1
Eval @ -1/3
Rotated 1 degree and cropped accordingly

All critiques and comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Bill, a lovely shot with excellent eye contact. I believe that removing the reflection below the lower patch of blue water would make the composition stronger.

Bill,
I agree with Sandy. That second strecth of blue is a tad distracting to me. But over all an excellent photo.

Bill,

I agree with Sandy. The crop would make a stonger image. It is indeed unusual to see them in water like this. Very nice light.

Great composition and low angle as well, the contrast is a tad high and the whites to the edge, otherwise very nice!! Congrats!! 8)

Bill,

Very nice! I hardly ever see these guys out of the mud. Excellent composition, although a little higher in the frame would give the reflection a bit more room. Wonderful pose! :)

Heh, count me with Sandy on the reflection. Love that pose and the water is beautiful too.

Am always interested in the zillions of killdeer out there and never seem to see the same photo twice! I like this one---the blue and green tones are very nice and I would consider a crop to bring more attention to the bird. the reflection which leads the eye to the edge of the frame is distracting. However, if this had been shot in a vertical, I would say keep it!!

Bill, I do think that makes the image stronger. It seems more balanced and the horizontal line creates a sense of environment much better for me. I like it just fine!

Bill,

I like both versions, but I think I like the second a little better. Very nice!

Oh, yeah....the crop does make a huge difference. An excellent killdeer...in the water. I had never seen them in the water either until I went to Lake Erie a week ago. There they spend a lot of time in the water. A really nice job with the shot....and the scan.
