Nikon D850, Nikon 500mm F5.6 pf
ISO 400, 1/1250s, F 9.0 As time went on the Flickers would silently enter the nest, feed the young, come up to the entrance, take a quick look around and fly away. The adults seemed to equally alternate as the female would generally come in approximately every 40 minutes, followed by the male about 20 minutes afterward. In this image the male was checking out his surroundings before exiting the nest. Flickers generally eat ants which they probe for on the ground. In this case their is clearly dirt on the base of his beak from extracting ants from an ant hill. Please click for higher resolution. |
