While waiting in a blind to capture shots at the Flicker's nest, this adult male Flicker landed right in front of me, on a nearby branch of an apple tree it was using as a staging site, before flying to the nest.  Before having a chance to change any settings I swiveled the tripod head and quickly took a few shots, before he flew to the nest. This is the first in a series of images of the comings and goings of this Flicker family as it raised it's young.

a nice one with fresh leaves that have not been eaten by the buds which makes it a presentable image, WARREN blinds really work well.

The Flicker landed in a nice spot and your quick thinking captured it beautifully!

It's a male, Karl. The female lacks the black mustache otherwise they are more or less identical.
