Quite an unusual capture here, Peter - perhaps the first Grosbeak chick featured on Naturescapes . The tail must be the last part to develop, as shown so well in this image.

Sweet! Its still got that yellow 'gape' and the tufts of baby fluff - and as Paul said, just the stump of the tail. Nice sighting and capture, Peter.

Lovely looking baby. I have never seen a baby bird of this species. Good for you that you found a nest site.
