It used to be a nesting site for Terns and Night Herons but in recent years has been taken over by Cormorants.

A beautiful in-flight image, Karl - the background colours are excellent. Didn't see any this spring at my local lake - quite an attractive and graceful species.

Super flight shot Karl. Lovely wing position, bg and just enough light direction to glint the eye.

Love the angle of the bird and most of all like the layered out of focus background.

the well balanced exposure is well done on this tern and the horizon bg colours work well here.

Great pose and angle, lovely background, excellent detail and colours - and I love the way the light catches just the right parts for maximum effect, Karl!

Beautiful image.

Interesting that you get Caspian Terns in your area. Around here there are several Tern species but hardly ever Caspians.

Nice detail in the larger version. These guys can be difficult to photograph where the black eye can be distinguished from the black hood. You got it!
