I had some fun with Red-headed Woodpeckers yesterday and I liked the unusual head turn in this one. Made me smile when I saw it on the computer. :)

Wow. Very unique looking head turn. He has food in his beak so I'm assuming there must be young to feed at the nest which is probably what he's looking at. Looking forward to seeing more, as anytime I see one I'm always taken by how striking a bird they are.

Exactly right, he was about to turn his body, too, to fly to the nest. They are feeding the chicks but I guess they are still very small, no heads peeking out yet.
