Black-necked Stilt female with chick
Gilbert, Arizona
D500, 500mm, 1/1600, f/9, ISO800   substantial crop

One of four chicks, probably 2-3 days old.  Unfortunately they stayed pretty far away, will try again with a teleconverter.  Ponds are still covered with debris, all the wind we've had lately isn't helping with that.  The red color is reflection of amaranth (weeds) growing in the basin.

Great shot! Perfect reflection and colors! Good job keeping space between them. Interesting bend of adults leg to squat lower.

Love the look of the adult bending at the knee to care for its chick. Very well seen and documented.

I love the way these long legged birds bend their legs like this so they can brood their chicks, a sweet capture, Cindy.
