This is a male Yellow Crowned Night Heron in what I believe to be a defensive display as another male came close to its nest site below him.  This was my first time observing and photographing them but from what I witnessed on my NJ trip, it appears as though they have a separate display pattern for breeding purposes and one for the defense of their small territory.  They nested close to each other in dense thickets and cedar trees.

Striking display and capture Warren! The large view shows its beauty. It certainly has that other male in its line of sight!

Wonderful capture of this display and the larger view shows how beautifully the heron pops from the foliage - almost 3D!

Fantastic behavioral image. Nice perspective to view this display and an attractive contrasting background.
