Nikon D850, Nikon 500mm F5.6 pf
ISO 1,000, 1/1000s, F6.3 This is a male Yellow Crowned Night Heron in what I believe to be a defensive display as another male came close to its nest site below him. This was my first time observing and photographing them but from what I witnessed on my NJ trip, it appears as though they have a separate display pattern for breeding purposes and one for the defense of their small territory. They nested close to each other in dense thickets and cedar trees. Please click for higher resolution. |
