I found a small flock of Snow Buntings at their regular spot. I don't know if someone puts out food or they just find a nice weedy patch for themselves. I put out some food closer to the road and they came immediately. (sideroad in a tiny hamlet, if you blink you miss it)

Great pose and light, I have not seen Snow Buntings this winter yet.

Cracking image of this Snow Bunting Karl. The large view shows off the subtleties in the feather details and the snow shadows.
Make your life spectacular!

The light and color is so beautiful. I like the long shadows that accent the chunks of ice/snow. They are more colorful birds than I realized.

Thanks Cindy. It could be a juvenile. Most of the Snow Buntings came from Iceland to our area. Once I met a Prof. there from Guelph University who was banding them and doing a multi-year research on them and he said that most of them were from Iceland.

I like the texture on the bunting with the soft looking colours.

Great snowy setting. Really shows off the subtle but pretty coloring. Never heard of feeding them-we find them occasionally in an open weedy patch in the snow.

Nice capture of a species which I don't see photographed often, Karl. Colors and sharpness look great. The bird really pops against the snow.
