Sandhill Cranes

Going through old images. 
This one reminded me of the unusual way they tuck their legs forward under there chest feathers, I assume to stay warm. This was in Bosque at the end of December...very cold

Super sighting and use of silhouette Richard.  Like the touch of colour remaining.  Probably right about the cold Richard, but also could be a way to streamline their flight/body to reduce drag as much as possible.

Thanks David. If I remember correctly I've only seen them fly this way in the early morning when it's really cold, otherwise their legs are extended straight back when flying
