It's been a year since the most amazing winter finch irruption occurred in the Northern U.S. and Canada, including my own yard in northeastern NY. This photo was one of hundreds of memorable photos that I took in my yard last year of pine grosbeaks, hoary redpolls, common redpolls, evening grosbeaks, pine siskin, and red crossbills.  I posted my yard birds on e-Bird and ended up getting dozens of drive-by birders from hundreds of miles away.

Canon R5, Canon 500mm F4 IS II, no flash, and about full frame as this species is just so tame around humans.

I have not posted here in such a long time and miss this site. Naturescapes was such an important part of my bird photography beginnings back when my first digital camera was probably the Canon 20D.

Beautiful image. I remember the irruption. They really liked Crab Apple.

What a beautiful image!
Everything works perfectly, the composition, the pose of the subject, the colors, the light and the details.
Those red berries are gorgeous!

It's been years that I have seen Pine Grosbeaks and agree, they are very cooperative. Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful shot, with berries in beak. I remember that year too- we had a similar irruption in Vermont. I never got such a good shot as this though. Good to see you back here-I hope you will find more to post this winter.

Great looking bird and nice to have him in the neighborhood. Nice looking perch and complimentary background as well. Hoping for a few nice things in our neck of the woods this year as well.
