Here is the original image. As you couldn't see the Kite's face, I decided to crop it out. Any thoughts?

Whilst very appealing Peter, in its own rights, a crop of both has just as much appeal. Either way, great sighting.

Excellent images in both solutions,
perhaps for my taste I prefer the second where there are both birds, because it gives more sense to the action.

Peter, I would have used the version you posted. Even though it's interesting to see the second bird, there's no real interaction between the pair and the Red Kite's eye(s) are not visible. Excellent details and dynamic pose.

I like the buzzard alone and with the red kite, Peter. Both actions and interactions are captured in excellent detail. What spoils them for me is the fencing and camo netting in the background. If that could be blurred out it would make a great difference IMO.

My first thought is that mostly brown birds look rather drab to me unless they're directly sunlit, and then they're wonderful. This certainly qualifies. Actually, that's my second thought. My first thought is that you are to be commended for posting your uncropped image. It takes a sort of quiet confidence to do so, and newbies might actually learn something. If more people were willing to post their completely unprocessed images, particularly their best, they could learn a great deal. And I would think that would be a good thing. But I doubt many would be willing. (I apologize in advance for targeting your photo for my near rant. But I am impressed with your honest inquiry. It's refreshing).

+1.  Gene echos my thoughts as well. Dynamic image of the buzzard.

I like the one you posted originally better. Outstanding pose and detail. Telling the story on its own.
