Sometimes you wish for two rigs having on your shoulders: one with a zoom lens and one with a long fix focus lens. This bird kept walking towards me and an other photog, sitting at the edge of the pond.
At one point I had to stop shooting and just admiring the beauty of this bird as it came within the minimum focus distance of my lens.

Amazing that this egret came way too close for you to focus, Karl. The shot you got here has superb detail and great view of the catch, so you definitely made the most of the opportunity before it got too close.

Terrific close up of this egret with a meal. The details are very nice especially the ability to hold the whites from blowing out. We should all be so fortunate to have our subjects walk in too close, lol. Well done.

In the end Karl, you managed to take another superb Egret photo. ( I wish Canon had made a 500mm f 5.6 ! )

I can relate to the dilemma! I really like this composition with enough of the body to "anchor" it. Great timing with the fish as well. Beautiful.

+1.  Brilliant shot Karl!   Outstanding quality and details with the action taking it over the top.
