Larger version here: Barred Owl at Hoy Creek

Captured this two years ago almost to the day. I was out for a walk just 5 minutes from my front door when I saw this Barred Owl. I didn't have my camera with me so I sprinted home and back to find him perched nicely for me...

A very nice image, Neil; a great inquisitive look from the owl. ( Photo taken in Coquitlam, B. C., I'm assuming, near my hometown, Vancouver).

Hi Paul, Thank you and yes, in Coquitlam at Hoy Creek. The wildlife that comes through this little creek area is amazing, I was about six feet away from a Bobcat last month just off the trail...

I like the pose and setting, the dead leaves add to it.

I was just thinking the same thing!  The scattering of dead leaves add a nice touch and give the hint of autumn to the habitat of this nicely posed owl, Neil.

Thanks all for your thoughtful comments. I just wanted to clarify that the leaves were like that naturally, just a lucky moment in time...

Stunning portrait of this magnificent specimen beautifully contextualized,
a well composed image on the diagonal. You are really lucky to be able to meet these creatures so close to home.
