Fulmar Prion
Bounty Island, New Zealand Nikon D850, 80-400mm at 400mm, 1/3200, f/9, ISO800, cropped Prions are southern ocean tube-noses that are known for the distinctive black "M" marking across the wings and back. Apparently that is a form of camouflage, breaking up the outline of the bird against the ocean. The wingspan of this species is 60cm / 24 inches. They nest on Bounty Islands and there were many of them coming and going as we cruised the island. Cindy Marple
