Beautiful setting, great pose with the beak open, feathers ruffled and details are excellent. Winner in my book.

Stunning placement of the bird and foliage, Gene! The way you've done this with the beautiful complementary colours and amazing detail would make a wonderful print for a fabric design. Superb!

An excellent image, Gene, all the colours in the photo go so well together, plus a great pose captured here.

Stunning shot- wonderful colors and "attitude". Didn't know the females were green!

Cynthia, All Painted Buntings are born "green" and the males begin changing colors fairly young, beginning with just a hint of colors around their head and then the colors spread from there.  There's no relative size difference between the males and females.

+1. In addition I like the fanned tail that adds to the ruffled feathers.
