Veery
Catharus fuscescens

20+ years on this property, and yesterday he became yard bird #142.  141 was last week's Golden-winged Warbler, whose pictures shall NOT be shared, lol.

5D IV
5004.0 IS L
1/50, f/5.6, ISO 800
Natural light (well, a little)

Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Lovely framing and composition Craig. Sharpness held well for 1/50. Most intriguing is yard bird 142 v yard bird 141. Thank you very much for sharing.

Thanks, David.  I have zero qualms with ISO 800 on my 5D IV. I can get good results with higher ISOs but there is, to me, a noticeable drop off in most cases. Plus, I was aiming for the Veery, and thrushes tend to hold their poses better than warblers, etc. A good tripod (and IS) helped on my end.

Totally get that Craig.  (I grew up on Kodachrome 64 and 25.  Moved to Velvia 50....)   in the digital world I was a dick for some years and resisted moving to any ISO for quite some time, but I still do get a thrill from using Iso 100 and below.   With you on the tripods..

Veery's are tough to get out in the open at any season. Well done with this image of him in a nice overall pose and setting.

Very nice image Craig, of a species that is not seen and photographed, as often as many of our other migratory birds.

Pretty impressive number of yard birds and this one is a great addition. I like the alert pose and eye contact.
