Cooper's Hawk with nestling Rock Pigeon
Gilbert, Arizona
Nikon D500, 500mm f/5.6 PF, 1/1250, f/8, ISO640

I was photographing ducks on a pond and looked up in time to see the Cooper's Hawk flying across.  It was making a bee-line for a nest under construction in a big cottonwood tree 50 or so meters behind me.  I wish my shutter speed had been faster but there was no time to make changes.

Tack sharp where it matters Cindy. The light angle shows off that glorious red eye perfectly.

Cindy, Agree that a faster shutter speed would have improved the image, but it's still pretty darn nice.

I don't mind blurred wingtips, they indicate the motion. Love the red eye and lovely flight pose. What is he carrying?

Yes, and well done for quick reactions when the opportunity presented itself!

Great reaction and tracking in one of those last second opportunities. Very nice adult specimen as well.
