Masked Flowerpiercer

Nikon D500, 500mm f/5.6 PF, ISO1250, 1/1250, f/6.3

Flowerpiercers are nectar eaters that "cheat" the flower they feed from.  With their strongly sideways curved bill, they pierce the flower at the base to obtain the sugar, bypassing the pollination parts of the flower.

An excellent " close-up " image, Cindy, showing great details and colours, plus a fine perch, and nice neutral background. A very good pose, as well.
Certainly, a very beautiful bird!

Great pose and overall image of a beautiful songbird. While looking at it, it occurred to me that if it's head was covered up it would be an Indigo Bunting.  The black mask and red eye really makes the bird stand apart. Interesting info as well.
