Female Eclectus Parrot (Eclectus roratus). This image is from a flock in Port Douglas, which is about 150km south of the published range of the bird. This flock has been wild here for many years, theories are that it came from escapes from the Wildlife Habitat nearby, or naturally as the climate changes. These are very noisy birds, and I suspect that however they got there, the calls from the birds in the Habitat play a part in them staying local.
This bird has a nesting hole on the other side of this tree, this hole is too small. But when some cockatoos dropped in to investigate the hole she came around to see what was going on. Maybe doesn't want neighbours. ISO4000, 840mm, f5.6, 1/640, by Canon. |
