 ISO 640, 1/1000s, F6.3 The Bicknell's Thrush is a physically dull looking bird but it is a star amongst birders in Upstate NY where it is a very rare breeder. It's breeding territory is at the upper levels of the highest mountains in the Adirondacks and a couple of the Catskill Mountains. The Bicknell's Thrush is a shy bird and usually vocalizes only in the very early morning hours and so is difficult to locate. In the case of this image, I was photographing my previously posted Blackpoll Warbler when this Bicknell's Thrush unexpectedly presented itself. It made for my most memorable day of birding this Spring. Please click for higher resolution. |
