Amur Falcon - adult female
The Amur Falcon is a small raptor with a wide wing span 63-71 cm ( 24-28 inches) that gets its name from the Amur River Basin which includes East Mongolia, NE China and Siberia. Every year it migrates 20,000km to Africa. In India it is a “passage migrant” passing through on its way across the Arabian Sea & Indian Ocean to East Africa. Before their flight across the ocean they “pause” to feed for a few days, in parts of Western India. This bird was captured when she hopped off her rock perch to run after a large grasshopper.
