If this image of the Blackburnian Warbler looks a bit bland, that's the point. The female of this species is much duller than the male probably as an adaptation to remain well hidden while sitting on it's nest high in pine trees. It should also be noted anecdotally, that the female is observed far less often than the male of this species, at least by this observer.

As a side note this image was taken on the same small spruce tree as my previously posted Tennessee Warbler about an hour later when the sun was on it. That day in mid May of this year, was the only day I noticed a movement of mixed warblers in my area.

Very nice image, Warren; I have to agree with you regarding the much lower rate of observation, regarding the female blackburnians.

Excellent in habitat image, Warren.  Interesting information too. A click on large views is a treat.

How nice to see the female. I don't find her dull if you don't compare her with the male, though her coloring is excellent camouflage for her environment. I've only seen one female, I think-she was on the ground gathering nesting material-not where you'd usually find her. Lovely sunny shot.

Compared to some females this little beauty has a fair amount of colour of her own, Warren! A lovely image.
