Nikon D850, Nikon 500mm F5.6 pf
ISO 640, 1/1600s, F7.1 This is a male Blackpoll Warbler that I shot yesterday on top of Whiteface Mountain in the Adirondacks. Most Blackpoll Warblers nest in the spruce/fir forests of Canada but a few nest in the highest elevations of the northern US. As I was photographing this one it ate several times and I was fortunate to capture this odd looking image where the beetle appears to be walking right into the birds beak. The most interesting attribute of this warbler is that it is the king of long distance flight of all song birds. In Fall migration it flies from Canada to South America, sometimes as far as Argentina......without stopping ! That's a nearly 8,000 mile trip that it takes along the Atlantic Ocean on a three day flight to it's Winter home. Please click for higher resolution. |
