 ISO 400, 1/800s, F6.3 This odd warbler actually looks more like a miniature Thrush with it's brownish colors and spotted chest. It's more often heard than clearly seen as it lives in the woods, many times fairly close to trails. It's nest is what gives this bird it's name. The nest is set on the ground, is rounded at the top like a Dutch oven, and only allows access from one side. It's very well concealed and camouflaged. The orange colored crest usually is only shown during Spring breeding season when the bird is agitated by another Ovenbird in it's territory. Please click for higher resolution.
