South Padre Island, TX, USA

The smallest member of the heron family, this gal's only about a foot long and weighs less than the meat in a Quarter Pounder, after cooking (the burger, not the bird.)

I've never seen a Least Bittern flying over so much open water. A tough little secretive bird that's tough to get so cleanly. Nice work to get your focus on him.

Thanks; I’ve spent a lot of time set up and waiting, but this gal surprised me walking down the boardwalk; I threw my camera up and got lucky with 3 decent shots in that burst

I have never been fortunate enough to photograph one of these but I hope to one day. Great flight shot.
