This image was taken in August , at the summit of
Mt. Washington, on Vancouver Island, Province of
British Columbia, Canada.

There was still remaining snow there, from the previous
winters' record snowfall of 60 feet ! (One winter I was told,
the snowfall was only 4 feet for the season ! ).
(  Vancouver Island  , except for the mountain range,
in the central region, has a mild climate, as it is along
the Pacific Coast, and escapes the colder winters,
found inland, on the mainland.

Somewhat cloudy when this image was taken,
good for photography, but not for views from the summit.
( On a previous trip, bird photography was poor,
but clear weather, made for stunning views of distant peaks,
lakes, and Vancouver Islands' only glacier ).

Apparently there are six sub-species of the Gray Jay,
this one is found from south-western British Columbia, to
the California coast, and is different from the typical species,
in that it has whitish-grey streaks on the upper back, while
the others do not.

Thanks to everyone for viewing.

Very interesting detail. I've photographed this bird many times here in the northeast but didn't know there were so many subspecies. Nice over the shoulder image.
