These two Western grebes have fish in their mouth and this is part of their mating behavior.  They typically share the fish with each other.  Then they go through the typical rushing behavior.  The fishing and the rushing behavior are not always connected from what I observed.  They are fun to watch.  It was raining on and off and quite dark when these were taken.

Wonderful capture - tough to get both, with prey, and in focus - great job.

Both grebes with a fish and both in focus is not an easy shot, but you pulled it off nicely. Great behavioral information in your narrative!

Difficult enough to get one bird in focus, but to get both birds in focus with the same type of fish is indeed well done and opportunistic. Sounds like a tough day to get them but you did very well.

Always great to see grebe behaviour images, and this is very well done!
