ISO 800, 1/800s, F7.1, Car as Blind A few nights before Easter we had strong winds with some brief but moderate snow squalls come through our area. The next day I went to one of my favorite small ponds for duck migration looking for Hooded Mergansers. As I pulled up to the pond it started snowing again and the winds were brisk. The only bird I saw in the area was this Red Breasted Merganser which was out of place on this small but deep pond. I stayed with him for nearly two hours hoping for better conditions but the wind remained brisk with intermittent snow. The Merganser appeared all alone, but when I went back later in the day it had departed, hopefully for more hospitable waters. Please click for higher resolution. |
