As Winter is now slipping away I thought I'd post a Common Redpoll in very cold conditions from two years ago. My thumb was in a cast from surgery and a good friend set up a blind next to his painting studio where he has bird feeders outside of Cooperstown NY. He set up my tripod and I borrowed his lens which was more manageable than my heavier version. As he sat in his warm studio painting he would occasionally tap the window and blow into his hands as if he were cold while I was out shooting at -2%. Good to have friends !!

now you to can blown into your hands because you got your shot and the added snow is great to show the winter side of this image.

Thanks Peter.  Just to be accurate the "snow" was actually frost. It was calm, but bitterly cold. Too cold with one hand or two !

Lovely sot, nice perch and the open beak adds to it.

Very nice photo, Warren; the perch with the snow ( frost ), looks great. The black feet of the redpoll, add a nice colour contrast
to the rest of the image.

Nice image. Like the complimentary bg. Some of the older 300 f/4 lenses were pretty darn sharp, and I think your friend had one.

Sweet shot, and what a heart-warming story...probably the only warm part that day!! Love the cheery look so typical of these cuties. Nice snowy branch too.
