Nikon D810, Nikon 300mm F2.8 + Nikon 1.4 TC
ISO 800, 1/250s, F5.0

This is the same Boreal Owl on the same branch that I submitted here on 2/4.  It will look quite different because this is a reverse angle as it was taken from the other side of the branch. This image has a "cleaner" background than the first image which may be preferable to some.  My taste tends towards more of an environmental look that includes the habitat so I prefer the first.

PS:  Just released from (precautionary) quarantine !!!!

Excellent image of a lovely Owl. I like clean background, put more emphasis on the main subject, the bird, that is.

Well framed, excellent image! I think the background here shows the habitat fairly well yet making the owl stand out.

you did a well done image, in his own habitat environment with the added natural bg is a plus and those eyes on a gray overcast day, they pop.

Cracking image Warren.  Killer stare.  Enough detail in the bg too to hold interest!   Good on you re the "quarantine".  good news.

Agree with Karl. The eye contact is about perfect.

They are both beauties, Warren, but I prefer the cleaner background in this shot. To me it makes a lot of difference. Excellent work!

I think this is just about perfect. Still plenty of habitat, and amazing stare from the owl. Great work...and glad to hear you are out of quarantine!!

I had to reply, LOL.  I knew I was going to be in the vast minority of what the response was likely to be between the two submissions.  When I looked at all of your (very kind) comments I actually said a bit out loud to myself...."told you so".  Thank you all for your responses !!

Both lovely images but I definitely do prefer images that combine a well photographed subject in its natural habitat, so your first frame is my favourite of the two, Warren.

Good to hear you have the all clear!

A great shot too, I could not choose, I really like both.
I'm glad you're okay.
