 Canon 400mm f5.6L f6.3@ 1/640 ISO 2000 Natural background Just before southern migration to the tropics, some juvenile males start to show the new throat feathers, that will develop and replace the dark ones completely, by the time they migrate north in the spring. ( The new red-orange throat feathers, are a permanent change. The white tips on the tail, will also be gone ). (The darker patches on the left breast, was where he was preening, just prior to the image being taken. Taken in late summer ( August 30 ) Province of Ontario. (Canada).
