It's been a while since I've posted here. Totally a grab shot and not my best ever, but... chance encounter in the mountain ridge rain-forest of Tobago of a Southern Lapwing. I used to marvel at the way the Norther Lapwing would fly loop-the-loops over the farm fields growing up in Switzerland so its fun to see a relative. Couple of fun facts from the Guardian: "The southern lapwing is distinctive: it is the only wader in South America that has a crest. These birds, like their congeners, have red bony extensions under the wings -- spurs -- that they use for fighting and defence."
